A Life of Color & Joy

My name is Melanie Kolifrath, and I am a fused glass artist based in Morganton, Georgia.

From an early age, I’ve always had a creative spirit—whether in school art classes or crafting at home, I found joy in expressing myself through artistic pursuits. In 2011, I discovered fused glass, and I was instantly captivated. That moment ignited a passion that continues to guide my work today.

My journey began modestly: sharing pieces on Facebook, selling to friends, and participating in local craft shows. With homemade display panels and a folding table, I entered the world of arts and craft shows—sometimes approaching show coordinators with a handful of pendants and asking, “This is what I do—how do I get into your show?” At the time, I knew little about business, marketing, or presentation, but I was determined to learn.

I have now been a full-time glass artist since 2020, creating original work that is represented in several local galleries and shops, as well as online through my Etsy shop. In addition to producing work for sale, I also offer fused glass instruction and hands-on workshops in my home studio in Morganton, where I enjoy sharing both the technical and playful sides of the medium with students of all experience levels.

My glass creations are often described as having a whimsical and “Seuss-ical” quality—an observation I take as the highest compliment. I believe my background and degree in Elementary Education, along with years of working with children of all ages, strongly influence my work. I’m still a kid at heart, and that sense of curiosity and joy is something I strive to infuse into every piece I create.
